What to do with your Government bonus money

by Greg Ellis on May 20, 2010

K.Rudd’s stimulus package went out last week and there’s just one thing on our minds…

What are we going to spend it on?

While it was the $900 Single Income Family Bonus and the $950 Back to School bonuses that have started to be handed out, most Cash Doctors clients eligible for the $900 tax bonus won’t be receiving their cash until early April. That means most of us have a bit of time up our sleeve to think about it.

The aim of the game is to keep the money in the country by buying Aussie goods and services, but also to keep ourselves afloat through these hard times.

So if you’re stuck in a bit of a financial rut, it’s best to use the dough to pay off expenses. Things like paying off a chunk of money on your credit card bill will reduce your future monthly payments.

However, if keeping the money in the country is more your concern, you might not want to go out and buy the plasma screen that was manufactured and shipped in to your local Harvey Normans straight from Japan. Although we do love a good Hitachi.

Some good ideas to keep our cash local and put it straight back into the economy is to spend it on dining out at local restaurants and have a few good meals; another idea is to support the local wine industry by purchasing Australian wine; or maybe you could treat yourself to a holiday on one of our many Australian resorts.
