The Origins of the Tight Arts – Part 3

by Greg Ellis on September 14, 2009

So far it’s been a successful mission.

I’ve opened your eyes to these important bits of information…

  • The Scottish origins of the Tight Arts – Calvinism and Adam Smith, the father of modern economics.
  • How appreciating the value of your money makes the world a better place and warms your heart.
  • How some Scottish folks view their ‘grippy’ reputation.
  • The difference between being a Tight Artist and just a selfish tight arsehole.

With a solid understanding of where the Tight Arts comes from, it’s now time to apply what we’ve learned.

Hostile Environment

A Hostile Environment For The Tight Artist

We’re heading to a place that has no mercy for your savings and cares not about how broke you are. It’s the most unforgiving environment possible for someone who doesn’t want to spend – Northern Europe.

That’s like sending a man who’s scared of heights up Everest, or a germophobe to India. It’s outside my comfort zone for two weeks.

In a couple of days I’ll be joined by my good friend and fellow Cash Doctors team member Johan Kriegbaum, a Dane himself. There’s a lot to do. It’s not going to be easy, but here’s what you can expect…

  • Is Northern Europe really that expensive?
  • When you’re travelling, how does a Tight Artist find accommodation, transport and food – but really get a taste of the culture and people?

Sure you could stay in a smelly hostel for 2 weeks and talk to Aussies and Yanks and hit the tourist trail, but that’s not what I’m looking for. Neither would I set up in a Hyatt Hotel for 2 weeks with a hire car. Besides being a Tight Artist here on a mission, I like to experience the culture rather than dwell in the safe cookie cutter hotel bubble.

  • After this I might make you feel better and more content inside. You might not whinge about Australian prices ever again after watching me getting smoked in Northern Europe.

So tune into the next blog (plug in RSS and forget about it). You should also follow me on Twitter here http://twitter.com/cashdoctors for some pictures and anecdotes on the fly that you won’t see in the blog.

It’s time for a true Tight Artist to shine…
