Earth Hour, the birth of Tight Arts and the power of light bulb moments.

by Greg Ellis on May 21, 2010

Funny memories indeed.

Earth Hour 2009 was when it all unfolded.

Sean had one of his mates over so we decided to have a small planet-saving soiree in our apartment.

It started off innocently enough. A bit of food, the lights out and candles cranked up.

But after a few red wines, talk of saving the planet somehow morphed into a very revealing chat about how Jason (Sean’s mate) saved money.

Our Earth “hour” suddenly turned into a two-hour candle-lit event. The information Jason was sharing with us was simply priceless, unheard of and very, very funny.

Members who’ve been with us for a while will remember our tight arts tips.

Jason, a real life Tight Arts Master, was the brainchild of all of these.

He made us realise that saving money was a very serious, calculating business. There are people who stop at nothing to ensure their every last cent is saved.

Even if this means smelling the hair of a flatmate to check if they’ve been using your shampoo. (NOTE: Best done in a ninja-esque manner when they’re sleeping.)

Financial frugality suddenly seemed almost like an artform – something that should be celebrated. Being a tight arse wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

So after that night, the Tight Arts Appreciation Society was born. The aim was to share for free some savings ideas with our members and also enjoy the “I can’t believe someone would go to that extent to save money” laughs along the way.

Luckily, we taped Jason that night as he unwittingly revealed some of his best tight arts tips (VID BELOW). I’m sure you’ll love the light bulb moment. : )

We’ll post more of Jason’s wisdom in the coming weeks.

And if you’re wondering, the laughing jackal in the background is me.

Sorry about that.

Cheers,

Greg Ellis.

P.S. Do your bit for the planet and plan an Earth Hour event this Saturday. And why not remain powerless and stretch the darkness to two hours instead of just one? Who knows what your extended chats by candlelight will reveal.
