It’s time for Uncle Ebay to move over. Here comes freecycle.org!
Nab second-hand stuff from your local community FOR FREE. Bikes. Furniture. Musical instruments… even pets that people (unfortunately) can’t take care of anymore. They’re all things still worth using/having… but of no more use to their original owner.
$0.00 price tags. 100% free.
Check this website out…

No listing fees. No steep postage costs at the end of the transaction. Just free stuff from like-minded community members who want to give, and get, for FREE.
Consider it an online garage sale where every item has a $0.00 price tag.
We’ve just registered to try it out. Once you find the active group that is closest, you join via Yahoo Groups. It takes a bit of setting up and then time waiting for approval from your local group moderator – but once you’re in, you’re in!
Since registering (last night) we’ve had three emails offering free stuff! Amazing.
Here’s one of the offers via email as an example…
“…offer: a microwave works fine …has been in storage. bag of linen, sheets, a sleeping bag and quilt, and contaner of duplo like blocks pick up for these is mudgeeraba please email and let me know which item you are interested in thanks…”

From the Freecycle website : “The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,793 groups with 7,208,000 members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them’s good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on “Browse Groups” above the search box. Have fun!”
They have the usual terms and conditions and they also mention quite a bit about safety when you’re exchanging goods i.e. don’t exchange goods at home if you feel uncomfortable – maybe choose a local park or shopping centre instead.
Become a member of your local group. We’d love to hear your bargain-grabbing stories.
